Marketing has a marketing problem

Seth Godin has posted an excellent little article on what marketing is and isn't. I think he is right on when he says. "Marketing is about sharing ideas you are passionate about...and doing it with authenticity." This is one of the best definitions I have ever come across. "Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish"

Here is a link to the text of a speech given by Steve Jobs to graduates at Stanford University. I found it to be very motivational and uplifting and I recommend for everyone. It's especially appropriate for recent grads or anyone going through a life change.

Here's a nice overview from Eric Rice on how to build a podcast. He focuses on organizing content and not the actual technical tools you will need. This is a good guide especially for those just getting started or experimenting with podcasts.

Think you've got a bad job? Take a look at this humorous site from Verizon to promote their wireless services. I think this is clever marketing that entertains and appeals to the target audience.

Corporations enter blogosphere

Here's a good article on the use of blogs by corporations. One of the key takeaways is to stay true to the format - transparency, honesty and open dialogue are essential. If you want another controlled PR vehicle, look elsewhere or your readers will tune out.

While you are there look at this public service campaign from England. If you thought Paris Hilton selling burgers was over the top, wait until you see British pop star Rachel Stevens promoting routine testicular exams for cancer prevention.
