My first thought after reading this article was, "Poor AOL." Now that dial-up internet is quickly becoming a thing of the past, AOL is dying. It seems like a very desperate thing to do to transform it completely into an ad supported business. I think this will be very hard to do for them, because I don't think many advertisers will want to invest much in a business that everyone knows is going downhill. No one wants slow, dial-up internet from AOL, and advertisers would do well to go with more prominent companies that are reaching a growing audience, insetad of a disintegrating one. As long as Time Warner refuses to sell them, I think they'll stick it out as long as possible, though.
